Application Scenarios

  • Enterprise Storage Servers & NAS: Directly connecting multi-port PCIe RAID controller cards (such as Broadcom/LSI MegaRAID) to banks of high-capacity SATA HDDs, streamlining internal cable routing and improving cooling airflow.

  • High-Density JBOD Enclosures: Providing reliable, space-saving internal data distribution from a central SAS expander backplane to individual SATA drive bays in rack-mounted storage arrays.

  • Professional Workstations: Enabling video editors and 3D animators to build high-performance, direct-attached local RAID 0/5/10 arrays using standard SATA drives without cluttering the workstation chassis.

  • Custom OEM Server Builds: Allowing system integrators to utilize cost-effective SATA solid-state drives (SSDs) on enterprise-grade SAS host bus adapters (HBAs) for optimized price-to-performance ratios.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this cable a Forward or Reverse breakout?
This is a Forward breakout cable designed to connect an SFF-8087 Host (like a RAID card) to SATA Targets (like hard drives). If you need to connect a SATA motherboard to a Mini-SAS backplane, you will require a "Reverse" breakout cable, which we also manufacture.
Are these cables compatible with SATA III (6Gbps) and older SATA II drives?
Yes. The cable is fully backward compatible. It is optimized for SAS 2.0 / SATA III 6Gbps data transfer rates but will work seamlessly with older SATA II (3Gbps) drives and controllers.
Do you offer the newer Mini-SAS HD (SFF-8643) to SATA cables as well?
Absolutely. While this specific model features the SFF-8087 standard, we are a full-service OEM factory. We manufacture equivalent breakout cables using the high-density SFF-8643 connectors designed for newer 12Gbps RAID controllers.
Can I customize the length of the individual SATA legs?
Yes. For specialized server chassis designs, we can stagger the lengths of the four SATA legs to perfectly reach staggered drive bays, minimizing slack and further improving internal airflow.
What is your Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) and production lead time?
We offer flexible MOQs for prototyping and trial orders. For standard volume OEM runs with custom lengths or jacket materials, our typical lead time is 2 to 3 weeks.

Overview and Application Notes

Overview: Engineered for reliable, high-bandwidth data transmission in enterprise data centers and high-density server architectures, our QSFP+ and Mini-SAS HD to Mini-SAS cable assemblies deliver uncompromised signal integrity. Manufactured in our ISO-certified facility, each assembly features precision differential pair construction, robust shielding, and secure latching mechanisms to support high-speed protocol requirements. As a factory-direct OEM partner, we provide customized lengths, alternative connector pairings, and strict compliance ready for global deployment.

Application Notes

  • Directionality Check (Forward vs. Reverse): This is a “Forward” breakout cable. Ensure the SFF-8087 end is connected to the Host (RAID controller/HBA) and the 4x SATA ends are connected to the Target (Hard drives or backplane). It will not work in reverse.

  • Bend Radius Restrictions: High-speed twinaxial data cables are sensitive to tight bends. Maintain a minimum bend radius of at least 5 times the cable’s outer diameter near the connector boots to prevent internal pair skew.

  • Mechanical Latching: Always verify that the stainless-steel locking latch on the SFF-8087 plug “clicks” securely into the host controller receptacle to prevent accidental disconnects from server fan vibration.

  • Airflow Optimization: Bundle the four SATA legs utilizing provided cable ties or mesh sleeving to prevent obstructing the server’s cooling fans.
